BIOGRAPHY
John Westwood began his career as an actor working in Theatre, Film, Television, and as a voice-over artist.
His first taste of the business was in musical theatre starring in productions such as "Blood Brothers, Kiss Me Kate, and South Pacific". Other productions include light-hearted Comedies from Oscar Wilde's "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime" to "Ted Willis's drama "Woman In A Dressing Gown". John also toured with Shakespeare's Tragedy "Macbeth" and "Brian Clemens" psychological thriller "The Edge Of Darkness" with Liza Goddard and Tony Scannell. Feature films include "The Sea Change" with "Maryam D'Arbo, Ray Winston "and "Twice Upon a Yesterday" with "Penelope Cruz". In Spain, John starred in five short English-speaking films playing the main characters, Written by "Roy Clark" (Last Of The Summer Wine, Open All Hours). Directors include "Steve Lanning" (Yentil, Gandhi) and "Ben Lanning" (Gemini Man). Two of the films have been shown at "Hollywood Film Festivals" and also at the "Marbella Film Festival" where they have won awards. The last of the films also features "William Shatner" |
John has also worked in many pantomimes with household names such as Syd Little, Darren Day, and the late and great Jean Fergusson, and many more.
TV programs include, "The Chief, No Bananas, Silent Witness", and "Casualty"
Also a pop video with "Madonna" in “A Substitute For Love".
He has worked extensively in London’s West End both as an Actor and as a Singer.
In 1997 John worked and sang with "Petula Clark" and the cast from "Sunset Boulevard". at Centre Stage Theatre in Covent Garden in London's West End.
The last London West End production was "Lady Macbeth Of Mtsensk" at "The Royal Opera House" Covent Garden, London In 2004. This won an "Olivier Award" for best new production.
As a Country Singer John Westwood uses the name "Johnny Westwood" to separate his two career paths.
As an Author and Actor he uses "John Westwood".
MEETING THE MASTER
Meeting Sir Christopher Lee was a dream come true as it was Christopher Lee who had influenced Johnny into becoming an actor.
A long story short; it turned out that he had in fact a mutual friend, the late Geoffrey Bailey who owned "Crime in store" book shop in Covent Garden, London. Geoffrey set up a meeting with Christopher Lee and the rest was history they met each other many times after that thanks to Geoffrey. |
